Walk-In Lab Testing

Wilson offers a variety of tests for your own health management. Stop by our lab during outpatient hours, choose a test and pay at the reception window. You do not need a doctor's prescription. We'll send you the results and you can consult your physician for further information. Here are the available tests we offer through our Walk-In Lab program.

ABO & Rh Blood Type

The most common blood types in the United States are A positive and O positive. O negative is considered a universal donor, meaning anyone can be transfused with this blood type. Both an ABO grouping and Rh type testing will be performed. This test requires a blood sample.

Urine Pregnancy Test

Tests for confirming pregnancy are based on detecting elevated levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The placenta begins to produce this hormone in increasing amounts about ten days after fertilization. While pregnancy is the most likely reason for the presence of hCG in urine, elevated levels unrelated to pregnancy have been reported in some patients. This test requires an early morning urine specimen.

Stool Occult Blood

This test detects occult blood in the stool. It is often done as a screen for colorectal cancer. Other conditions may cause positive results. Positive results should be followed up by a physician. This test requires a small stool specimen on a special card, which must be obtained from the lab first.

Fasting Glucose

Serum glucose should be checked after fasting for eight hours if it is done as a screen for diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that normal values should not exceed 100 mg/dl. Patients with values repeatedly above 100 mg/dl should be seen by a physician and evaluated for diabetes. This test is also useful for checking the accuracy of a home glucose meter. This test requires a blood sample.

Hemoglobin A1C

The test for A1C indicates how well people with diabetes have controlled their disease over a period of time. By taking the average measure of blood glucose levels from previous months, diabetics, along with their doctor, can determine if the measures they are taking to control their diabetes have been successful. This test requires a blood sample.

Lipid Profile

The lipid profile is a group of tests that are ordered together to determine risk of coronary heart disease. The tests that make up a lipid profile are tests that have been shown to be good indicators of whether someone is likely to have a heart attack or stroke caused by blockage of blood vessels (hardening of the arteries). The lipid profile includes a total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol (often called good cholesterol), LDL- cholesterol (often called bad cholesterol) and triglycerides.

Cholesterol

Elevated cholesterol levels have been identified as one of the risk factors associated with coronary heart disease and strokes. The build-up of fatty deposits, largely cholesterol, on the walls of the arteries is the process that underlies these two diseases, which are the cause of almost half of the deaths in the United States. Other factors including triglycerides and lipoproteins are also involved, but serum total cholesterol seems to be one of the most important. This test requires a blood sample.
