WILSON AUXILIARY MEMBERS RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE

Wilson Auxiliary members were honored for their volunteer service to the hospital Wednesday, April 9, during a spring luncheon hosted by the hospital board, administration and medical staff. The Wilson dietary department provided a luncheon of chicken marsala, red skin potatoes, green bean medley and chocolate lava cake for dessert. Ninety-six volunteers attended.

Wilson’s Human Resources Director William McCaskey was the emcee for the event and thanked volunteers for all their time given to the hospital. The Wilson Auxiliary donated not only funds to further enhance the hospital during 2007, but also donated over 23,000 hours of their time. These volunteers provided service in various areas of the hospital including greeting customers, performing various clerical functions and helping patients. Through fundraising activities and gift shop sales, the Auxiliary donated $25,000 to the hospital. There are 140 active hospital volunteers, 34 associate members and five honorary members.

Barb Ciriegio, 2008 Wilson Auxiliary president, opened the luncheon with a prayer. Thomas Boecker, president & CEO highlighted some of the recent renovations at the hospital and thanked the Auxilians for their continued service to Wilson. “2007 was a successful year here at the hospital,” Boecker stated. “We could not have been as successful if it wasn’t for the dedication of our volunteers.”

Tom Middleton, board chairman, also thanked the hospital volunteers. “Wilson volunteers do an excellent job representing the hospital. We thank you all for the fine job you do,” he said. “You make a big difference.”

Paul Thorpe, M.D., chief of staff, extended his appreciation on behalf of the medical staff. “Here at Wilson we provide cutting edge technology that allows us to provide the quality care our patients deserve. It is with the help of your generous donations that we are able to do so,” said Thorpe. “But, we know that it takes more than just the technology. It is your kind smiles and friendly touch that helps create the calming environment our patients know and trust.”

Mindy Geuy, volunteer coordinator, along with McCaskey, presented the award pins to those volunteers who have reached the next level of service. They include: Mary Evelyn Salm and Grace Steenrod, 17,000 hours; Ruth Doseck, 9,000 hours; Rosalind Russell, 8,000 hours; Irene Freisthler, Patricia Hoover and Rose Swiger, 5,000 hours; Cecile Acker and Jenny Trisler, 3,000 hours; Sarah Forsyth, Shyla Goffena, Ruth Lee and Penny Seyer, 2,000 hours; and Jane Baker, Jean Evans, Anna Grasseschi and Dorothy Quinlin, 1,000 hours.
